Can you imagine: mowing your lawn and all of sudden the ground opens up and you fall in, or you’re driving your car and the road disappears in front of your eyes and down you go, or you’re at a soccer event and your child is running down the field when a hole opens up out of nowhere and swallows your child. Believe it or not these incidents really happened and continue to happen all over the world. What happened? They are called sinkholes caused by water saturation. Sometimes water pipes burst or leak and in other cases the rainwater or underground springs may slowly erode the ground below the surface. What’s shocking is the suddenness of the collapse. Everything may look fine, from a building standing firm, to a highway rolling along, and a field spreading out like a green carpet. But, beneath the surface the integrity of the earth has been compromised.
When the influences of the world begin to seep into our habits and our hearts as Christians, we can begin to experience the same unseen spiritual erosion. On the outside everything seems fine but slowly our foundation grows weak. Today’s Christians may be at an all time “world saturation” level. Without intentional effort, we unavoidably soak in activities that can erode our faith, habits and character. It’s a good time to check our saturation levels. (This information is from an article by Dr. David Jeremiah in his January 2012 devotional magazine. If you would like to check out his 8 questions checklist you can go to www.DavidJeremiah.org) I can tell you that allowing God’s word to seep into our conscious, subconscious, and unconscious thoughts is one important way to shore up your foundation.
Each week our Sunday school students and teachers begin our morning with pledges to the American flag, Christian flag, and the Holy Bible. Within our pledge to the Bible we speak about hiding its word in our hearts that we might not sin against God. The classes are given scripture within their lessons each week and the younger ones are expected to memorize theirs. We leave the task of memorization to the older ones unchallenged, including adults. (myself included). I would like to encourage each and every person reading the newsletter to find a partner of ANY age to hold accountable and be held accountable to memorize scripture for the next 60 days. You can also do this as a family activity, whichever way you choose I am asking you to join me. One thing I KNOW, we will grow in our personal relationship with Christ as well as the partner(s) we choose to share this journey with. I would like to see our Children at Sunday school partnered with an adult if possible. You could also use the time that you check in on each other for the week to pray with one another. This is indeed a mission field waiting to be cultivated and I sincerely pray you join us. Pick a partner, pick a verse(s), pick a time to share and give the Glory to God.
